A 60-minute community theatre musical adaptation of the classic movie musical, performed by the Raleigh Little Theatre.
Raleigh Little Theatre is putting on Singin' in the Rain on Thursday, October 15. It's a 60-minute community theatre musical adaptation of the classic movie musical, so it's a condensed version that gets you the highlights in about an hour. If you've seen the film, you know the story—the silent movie era giving way to talkies, the rain-soaked dance numbers, and the chaos of a production going sideways—and this brings that to the stage in Raleigh.
One of the people behind the show is Sherry Lee Allen, who's part of the Raleigh Little Theatre team of instructors. She's a 35-year union member of Actors' Equity Association and has a professional background that stretches across the US and Europe: she performed in the Broadway National Tour of Evita and the European Tour of Jesus Christ Superstar. She's also played leading roles in Singin' in the Rain, Grease, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, The Marvelous Wonderettes, 42nd Street, My Fair Lady, The Music Man, Irene, and Tartuffe.
Beyond the stage, Allen has taught voice, dance, and piano at the NCT Conservatory, served as Assistant Director/Choreographer for Master STAS and NCT's Evita, and worked as an adjunct professor in dance, theatre, or music at William Peace University, Meredith College, Grand Valley State University, Aquinas College, and Grand Rapids Ballet. She established a musical theatre academic program at Cornerstone University and Barton College, where she's been a faculty member since 2014 and Director of Theatre for the past six years, directing over 200 productions. She's also been a featured vocalist with the Barton College/Wilson Symphony Orchestra, Tar River Swing Band, Moonlight Swing Band, and Blue Moon Orchestra.
