Concert by Chapel Hill indie rock and dream pop artist Robert Morton at The Commons Pop Up Music.
Robert Morton plays The Commons Pop Up Music on Friday, October 9, starting at 6 PM. He's a Chapel Hill artist who spends a lot of his time playing across the Triangle—local breweries, pop-up markets, and small venues—so this is one of his usual stops in the area.
Morton's music is built on candid storytelling and an unflinching look at life's transitions. He released his debut album, Late Night Thoughts, in 2021, followed by I Would Fall Apart Without You in 2023. On March 20, 2026, he put out his third album, Self-Loathing Never Got Me Anywhere, which he describes as his most personal and emotionally exposed project to date. It dives into self-loathing, mental health, grief, and the process of rebuilding relationships, blending introspective lyricism with atmospheric indie rock and dream pop.
Live, he keeps the intimacy of a coffee shop but uses a loop pedal to layer sounds, moving from stripped-down acoustic moments into fuller pop textures. It's a one-man setup that lets him build out the sound on his own, so you'll hear the songs shift from something sparse and quiet into a more complete arrangement as the set goes on.
