Old Habits, a band blending Americana, country and Southern roots, present their Christmas show at Lincoln Theatre.
Old Habits bring their Christmas show to the Lincoln Theatre on Thursday, December 10, in Raleigh. It's a holiday set from a band that's spent more than two decades working their way through the local scene.
They started back in 2003 when Craig Thompson, Lin Peterson, Bennett Thompson, and Brian English got together to play bluegrass. Their original practice space was a duplex across the street from The Players Retreat, a Raleigh landmark where Lin and Craig lived. Chad Johnson joined soon after, and by 2007 they'd recorded their first self-titled album at The Rubberroom in Chapel Hill. In 2010, drummer Evans Nicholson came on board, and that's when the sound shifted from old-school bluegrass into what they play nowāa mix of Americana, country, and Southern roots.
That's the sound they're bringing to the Lincoln Theatre for this one. If you've followed them since the early days, you'll recognize the bluegrass that started it all still running through the music, even as the Americana and country have taken over. It's a holiday show, so expect the set to lean into that, with the band playing through their Christmas program.
