Concert by the trio LaMP, featuring drummer Russ Lawton, organist Ray Paczkowski and guitarist Scott Metzger, at the Lincoln Theatre.
LaMP plays the Lincoln Theatre on Thursday, October 15, with doors at 7 PM and the show starting at 8 PM. It's a trio made up of drummer Russ Lawton, organist Ray Paczkowski and guitarist Scott Metzger.
If those names ring a bell, it's probably because Lawton and Paczkowski have a long history together. They've played in Soule Monde and the Trey Anastasio Band, and the two of them have a shorthand from years of sharing a stage. LaMP adds Metzger to that mix, and the band describes their sound as the synergy of Lawton and Paczkowski meeting Metzger's acrobatic Telecaster melodies. It's a cooperative trio, so the three of them are working together rather than one leading the others.
That Telecaster is a good place to start if you're trying to picture the sound. Between the organ and the drums, you've got a rhythm section that's played together across different projects, and Metzger's guitar lines sitting on top of that. It's a small group, so there's not much hiding behind a wall of sound—just the three of them on stage.
