Celtic rock band Gaelic Storm performs live at The Rialto Theatre in Midtown Raleigh.
Gaelic Storm play The Rialto Theatre on Thursday, October 15, bringing their Celtic rock to Midtown Raleigh. It's a multi-national band that's been at this for over two decades and more than 2,000 shows, and they've topped the Billboard World Chart six times. They've spent a lot of that time headlining some of the largest Irish festivals, so this is a full-band set rather than a small-club appearance.
Their story starts in the mid-1990s when they were a pub band in Santa Monica, California. One of those early performances led to them being discovered and cast in the movie Titanic, where they performed "Irish Party in Third Class." Frontman Patrick Murphy credits the fans with giving the band its life, and member Ryan Lacey describes them as a working-man's band that still tours most of the year. In recent years, they've added fiddler Natalya Kay and guitarist Parker Hastings to the lineup.
The venue is The Rialto Theatre, 1620 Glenwood Ave. in Midtown Raleigh. It was built in 1942 and recently renovated, and it still has its original beauty with vintage recessed lighting and a performance stage. When it's not hosting concerts, it screens foreign and independent films.
