Create a unique cyanotype community mural by leaving your silhouette on fabric using sunlight, part of the Click! Photography Exhibit at Dix Park.
The Cyanotype Community Mural is happening at Harvey Hill in Dix Park on Sunday, October 18, from 11 AM to 12 PM. It's a community project where you help build a large-scale piece of art just by showing up and standing in the sun.
If you've never worked with cyanotypes, the process is pretty straightforward. The fabric is treated with a light-sensitive solution that turns a deep, Prussian blue when exposed to UV light. To make your mark, you just stand on the fabric and block the sun, leaving a white silhouette of yourself behind. The more people who step in, the more silhouettes get layered on, and the mural grows into a collective record of everyone who took part.
The mural is part of the Click! Photography Exhibit at Dix Park, so it's one piece of a larger photography show running through the park. Instead of just looking at photos on a wall, this is a chance to be part of the making of one.
