Closing reception for the Syllabary exhibition by artist Jason Lord at Pullen Arts Center, exploring language and creativity.
Jason Lord is wrapping up his exhibition Syllabary at Pullen Arts Center with a closing reception on Saturday, October 24. If you've been meaning to catch it and haven't yet, this is your last chance to see it in person before it comes down.
Lord is a Durham-based interdisciplinary artist, and Syllabary is an evolving exhibition that looks at language, creativity, and the rules that govern them. He spends a lot of time on the relationship between parts and wholes, and the work comes out of a process of assembling, repetition, revision, and experimentation. The title itself points toward that: a syllabary is a set of written symbols that represent the syllables of a language, and the show plays with those kinds of building blocks.
Because it's an evolving show, it's not a static display—it's something that changes as it goes. The closing reception is the final stop for the exhibition, so it's the last time you'll be able to walk through it at Pullen. If you're into art that asks how we build meaning out of smaller pieces, this is right up that alley.
