A string quartet performs Vivaldi's Four Seasons under flickering candlelight in a historic venue.
The Rialto hosts a Candlelight performance of Vivaldi's Four Seasons on Friday, January 8, 2027, at 5:30 PM. A string quartet plays the full set under flickering candlelight, and the whole thing runs an hour. It's part of the Candlelight series by fever.
The Four Seasons is probably the most famous example of the baroque tradition and the most popular of Vivaldi's 350 concertos. The four connected violin concerti take you through the seasons: the chattering birds of spring over flower-strewn meadows, a thunderous summer storm, a joyous autumn harvest, and the icy snows of winter. Hearing them back-to-back in a single sitting lets you follow that progression from one to the next.
The venue is The Rialto, a 426-capacity historic room in Raleigh's Five Points neighborhood. It's got a bit of a story: originally an A&P grocery store built in 1936, it became The Colony Theatre in 1942 and is now known for independent films, live music, and community events. It's a smaller room, which fits the candlelight setup.
