A live performance by the bluegrass and jam-band quartet Mountain Grass Unit at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh.
Mountain Grass Unit play the Lincoln Theatre on Saturday, November 7. They're a bluegrass and jam-band quartet from Birmingham, Alabama, and the bill is just themβno opener, just an evening with the band.
If you're not familiar with them, the name is a fair starting point. They work from a bluegrass foundation, but they pull in rock, jazz, funk, and metal, so it's not a traditional bluegrass show. The sound is built on deep flatpicking and stacked vocal harmonies, and they leave plenty of room for extended musical improvisation, which is where the jam-band side of things really comes through. It's a mix of tight arrangements and long stretches where they just play and see where the song goes.
