Punch Needle Bag Charm Craft Workshop

Tiger Lily Tufts is running a punch needle workshop at Hotwalls Studios on Saturday 26 September, and the whole thing is held in Studio 2. If you've never come across punch needle before, it's a form of embroidery where you use a special tool to push yarn through fabric, creating a thick, looped texture that sits somewhere between traditional stitching and rug-making. It's a tactile, slow process, and the session is set up as a beginner-friendly introduction.

The project you'll be working on is a bag charm—a small, textured accessory you can hang from a bag or turn into a keychain. You'll start with the basics, learning how to handle the punch needle tool and get the tension right, and from there you'll build your own charm from scratch. It's a hands-on way to pick up a new craft, and you'll leave with something you've actually made rather than just a few notes on how to do it.

The workshop is led by Tiger Lily Tufts, who'll be guiding you through the process and showing you the ropes. It's a good one if you've been wanting to try something creative but didn't know where to start, especially since you're making a finished object as you go. The studio is in Old Portsmouth, so it's an easy trip down to the waterfront for a Saturday morning.
