Creative session for children under 5 featuring storytelling, songs, sensory activities, and arts and crafts.
Mini-Museum Explorers is back at Portsmouth Museum & Art Gallery on Friday 17 July, with this session titled Time travel: Experience Tudor life. It's part of a wider series of creative sessions for children under five, run throughout 2026 across Portsmouth's museums, with each one taking a different theme.

This particular one looks at Tudor life, and it's designed for the under-fives to come along with their parents or carers. The hour is built around storytelling, songs, sensory activities, and arts and crafts, so it's a mix of listening and doing rather than just sitting still. The sensory side is usually the best bit for the little ones — things they can touch and play with rather than just look at — and the crafts mean they'll have something to take home when it's over.
One thing to keep in mind: this session was originally planned for Southsea Castle, but it's been moved to the Museum & Art Gallery because of closures on the seafront. If you'd been keeping an eye on the Castle dates, make sure you've got the right venue in your head before you set off.
It runs from 10.15am to 11.15am, so it's a morning thing that wraps up before lunch. It costs £3 per child, or it's free if you've got a leisure card. You'll need to book your place in advance by calling 023 9283 4779.
