Macrame Pot Hanger Workshop

Alice Hume is running a macramé pot hanger workshop at Aspex on Sunday 20 September, from 11:00 to 13:00. It's a two-hour session, and you'll leave with your own plant hanger to take home.

Hume is a textile artist and weaver based at Portsmouth Museum & Art Gallery, where she makes contemporary textile decor and runs workshops. She graduated in 2013 from Winchester School of Art with a degree in Woven Textile Design and spent time studying weaving at the Swedish School of Textiles in Boras and in Osaka, Japan. She's known for pushing the boundaries of the craft, working with unusual materials like copper yarn and raffia on her eight-shaft Harris Loom. The weaving runs deep in her family, too — her surname, Vanderhume, comes from an ancestry of Flemish weavers.

After she graduated, she and her father collaborated to build handmade frame looms, which they called 'Hume Looms', made from recycled wood. She still uses them to teach her weave workshops. Her teaching has a solid track record behind it: her workshops have earned 181 five-star reviews and a Platinum Student's Choice Award with Craft Courses.

The session is open to all abilities, so you don't need any prior experience to join in. Children are welcome as long as they're accompanied by an adult. It runs from 11:00 to 13:00 at Aspex Portsmouth, in The Vulcan Building at Gunwharf Quays, PO1 3BF, and costs £40.
