LOL Comedy Club

LOL Comedy Club is back at the Lord Mayors Banqueting Room in the Portsmouth Guildhall on Friday 3 July, with the show starting at 20:00. It's a stand-up night that brings together four professional comedians on one bill, held in the Guildhall's banqueting room rather than the main hall, which keeps things a bit more intimate.

The format is straightforward: four top professional comedians to make you laugh, with a presenter and an MC to keep the night moving. The club describes its acts as a mix of TV names and "the best of the rest" from around the world, and it's the kind of room where you might catch a comic before they become a household name. They mention Jason Manford, John Bishop and Sarah Millican as examples of people who played here before they hit the big time, so there's a good chance you'll see someone on their way up.

It's set up as a night out rather than a quick stop. There's a full bar running throughout, with two intervals built in to let you top up your drinks and catch up with whoever you've brought along. That makes it a decent shout for a group of friends, a work outing, or a date. It's recommended for ages 16 and over, so it's an adult comedy night rather than a family affair.

Tickets are €22.80, which includes a 12% booking fee and the catering levy. A few house rules to keep in mind: cameras and tablets aren't allowed, and you can't bring your own food or drink into the room, unless it's for medical reasons. If you can't make this one, the club runs regularly through to 12 December, with all the dates starting at 20:00.
