Introduction to Tufting: Make a Coaster or Mini Wall Art Piece

Tiger Lily Tufts are running an introduction to tufting at Hotwalls Studios in Old Portsmouth on Friday 18 September. It's a one-hour session where you'll learn how to use a tufting gun to make either a coaster or a mini wall hanging, so you'll leave with something you've actually made rather than just a demo.

The venue is worth a bit of its own mention. Hotwalls Studios sits in a heritage spot in Old Portsmouth, where a group of local artists, designers and makers have their workspaces. The project turned the old, rarely used arches at Point Battery into modern studios, a transformation inspired by the Sunday art sales that have taken place there since the late 1950s. In 2014, Portsmouth City Council secured funding to convert what was once a defence against invasion into a creative quarter. Today, thirteen studios ring the site, with The Canteen, a deli-style café, alongside them.

Because it's a small-group setup, the sessions run between 10am and 4pm, with up to two people per slot, so you can pick a time that fits your day. It costs £36 per person. If you're going with a friend, you'll be in the same hour-long window, and if you're on your own, you'll be paired up with whoever else has booked that slot.
