A workshop with textile artist Alice Hume introducing participants to frame loom weaving, where they create their own fabric and woven pieces.
Alice Hume is running an introduction to frame loom weaving at Aspex Gallery in Gunwharf Quays, with sessions on Sunday 30 August and Sunday 27 September. It's a full day, 10:45 to 16:00, and it's built for beginners: you'll work with a wooden frame lap loom, warp your own loom, and make your own fabric from scratch. By the end, you'll have a finished woven wall-hanging or decorative piece to take home.
The focus is on texture, pattern and colour. You'll learn soumak, how to work with two or three colours in a single row, and different ways to create shapes and tassels. A home-made Hume Loom, the tools you'll need, and a variety of yarns are all provided, and you can buy your own loom at the end of the workshop if you want to keep going. Hume also encourages you to bring along strips of fabric, beads or anything else you'd like to experiment with, so you can weave in your own bits and pieces.

Alice Hume is a textile artist who's won a platinum award with Craft Courses and holds 179 five-star reviews for her workshops.
