Everyday Heroes craft workshop

The D-Day Story is hosting an Everyday Heroes craft workshop on Friday 31 July, run by artist Kim Edith at The Discovery Hub. It's a drop-in session, so there's no booking needed—you just turn up and get stuck in.

The workshop is part of the museum's family programme at The Discovery Hub, which they've aimed at families, adults of all ages, visitors with disabilities, and anyone who just wants to pick up a new skill. The session itself is simple: you make a small doll, and once it's finished, it'll be exhibited in the Portsmouth100 show Your museum. Your stories. Your city, which opens in October 2026.

There's a bit of local history behind it, too. The workshop draws inspiration from the often-unsung roles of the people who supported the Home Front during the Second World War, and from the stories of the men, women and children who lived, worked and volunteered in Portsmouth and across the country. It's a nice way to get a small piece of your own work into a show that's all about the city's people.

That show is part of Portsmouth100, marking 100 years of Portsmouth as a city, and it's made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund, with thanks to National Lottery players. If you're visiting the museum anyway, you'll find LCT 7074 outside—the last surviving Landing Craft Tank from D-Day, displayed in a purpose-built dry dock on the Southsea seafront. The workshop is on 31 July at The Discovery Hub within The D-Day Story, drop-in with no booking required.
