A family-friendly volunteer day for weeding, pruning, and planting at Wilkes Park to support pollinator biodiversity, with tools and refreshments provided.
Portland Parks & Recreation is hosting a volunteer day for the pollinator patch at Wilkes Park on Tuesday, October 13, from 9 AM to 11 AM. It's a morning for anyone who doesn't mind getting their hands dirty: you'll be weeding, pruning, mulching and adding new plants. They provide the tools and the instructions, and you don't need any gardening experience to jump in. It's pitched as a family-friendly morning, with snacks and hot beverages on hand and an ADA-accessible restroom on site.
Beyond the gardening, the goal is to revive the pollinator patch and increase biodiversity at the park. While you're working, you'll pick up a few things about gardening and meet neighbors from across the community. It's framed as the final volunteer day of the year, coming just as the plants and wildlife prepare for hibernation and winter sets in. If you've been meaning to spend some time outdoors before the weather turns, this is a good way to do it while leaving the park in better shape for next spring.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Portland and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.
