Brooklyn-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Tōth performs live with his third album, 'And The Voice Said', in a communal and engaging show.
Tōth plays the Mission Theater on Saturday, October 24, in downtown Portland. Tōth is the stage name of Alex Toth, a Brooklyn songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who used to be in Rubblebucket. He's touring his third album, And The Voice Said, which came out February 27, 2026, on Northern Spy//Egghunt Records.
The record was co-produced by Grammy nominee Caroline Rose and features Kimbra. Toth is known for songwriting that hits hard emotionally but keeps its wit and humor, and his live shows tend to feel more like communal gatherings than formal performances—heart-on-sleeve, deeply felt, and open to everyone. On stage, he's a multi-instrumentalist, and his trumpet playing is one of the things that stands out: soulful and expressive. Between songs, his banter is described as delightfully unhinged.
Critics have called him "mesmerising" (The Independent) and compared his melodic elegance to late Paul McCartney, with the inventive flamboyance of Beck and the "organised weirdo" quality that made David Byrne a pop alchemist (Riptide Magazine). It's that combination of pop sensibility and a bit of the unexpected that defines his work.
