A community dance event where participants perform Michael Jackson's Thriller, with check-in and donations for Hygiene4All.
Thrill The World returns to the Irving Park Basketball Courts on Saturday, October 24, at 3 PM. It's a local chapter of a simultaneous global dance where people from all over the world perform Michael Jackson's Thriller at the same time. Portland's version is hitting its 20th year, and the organizers point out that Portland is the only city in the world to have danced it every single year the event has been held.
DJ Prashant emcees the afternoon, and the program kicks off with a Bollywood version of Thriller performed by his dance troupe. After that, the main event takes over: the full Thriller dance, followed by two reprises. It's an all-ages affair, so you can bring the kids along.
If you want to be part of the dance rather than just watching, there's plenty of time to get the steps down. Preparation happens at the same courts every Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 AM to 1 PM through October 18, so you can drop in and practice before the big day. On the day itself, volunteers handle check-in and collect donations for Hygiene4All.
