Screenings of David Robert Mitchell's sci-fi film about a family whose neighborhood is ripped away from suburbia by a mysterious cosmic event.
The End of Oak Street is playing at the Kennedy School Theater this week, with three screenings on the schedule: Sunday, October 18, at 7 PM; Monday, October 19, at 1 PM; and Wednesday, October 21, at 7 PM. It's a second-run showing, so if you missed it when it first hit theaters, this is a good chance to catch it.
Written and directed by David Robert Mitchell, the film follows the Platt family, whose Oak Street neighborhood is ripped away from suburbia by a mysterious cosmic event and transported to an unknown place. From there, they have to stick together to survive. It stars Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, with Maisy Stella and Christian Convery in the supporting cast. J.J. Abrams, Hannah Minghella, Jon Cohen, Matt Jackson, and Tommy Harper produced it, with a score by Michael Giacchino and cinematography by Michael Gioulakis. Warner Bros. Pictures handled the distribution, and it opened in North American theaters and IMAX on August 14, 2026, and internationally starting August 12.
The venue is the Kennedy School Theater, a former school auditorium at 5736 Northeast 33rd Avenue in Northeast Portland. The walls still bear murals of the school's history and the surrounding neighborhood, and the theater runs second-run features nightly. Right next door is the Theater Bar, which occupies a former classroom and serves handcrafted ales, wines, spirits, and pub fare. If you're staying overnight at the hotel, admission is free except during private or special events.
