A screening of the horror classic 'Eyes without a Face' in 4K restoration, part of the 'Vintage Spooky' festival at the Portland Art Museum.
Eyes without a Face (1960) is screening at the Portland Art Museum on Sunday, October 25, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. It's a 4K restoration of Georges Franju's horror classic, which runs an hour and a half.
The story is a heavy one: a guilt-ridden plastic surgeon, haunted by a car accident that disfigured his daughter, lures young women to his chateau to graft their faces onto hers. It's a lyrical and disturbing look at identity and obsession, and this version has been restored in 4K for the screening. If you've never seen it, it's one of those early horror films that lingers long after the credits roll.
The screening is part of PAM CUT @ The Whitsell, the Portland Art Museum's month of horror classics, also known as 'Vintage Spooky,' which runs throughout October at the Whitsell Auditorium. It's not the only thing on the calendar: the same program includes 'Night Blooming Jasmine: A David Lynch Screening Weekend,' with Eraserhead, Lost Highway, and a 35mm print of Blue Velvet, and a Halloween-day screening of Night of the Living Dead (1968). If you're into the genre, you can pretty much spend the whole month in the auditorium.
