Interactive workshop for early-childhood educators to learn how to use storybooks and play to inspire science and math learning in preschoolers.
OMSI is hosting Supporting Young Scientists on Saturday, March 13, 2027, from 9 AM to 1 PM. It's an interactive workshop for early-childhood educators who feel a bit nervous about teaching science to preschoolers. If that sounds like you, you're exactly who this is for.
The session starts with you looking at your own attitudes toward science, and from there, you'll get resources to help you recognize what it actually looks and sounds like when young children are being scientists. You'll practice through hands-on activities that OMSI has tested in the museum, all centered on scientific thinking. The OMSI staff will show you how to connect literacy, mathematics, and play through story-based games that are fun and developmentally appropriate for preschoolers—the kind of things you can take right back to your own classroom. You'll also get tools to design your own new activities for preschool-aged learners.

Just a heads-up: this one is for adults only, so no children are admitted. Registration is required, and the cost is $30.00. You can find it at OMSI, 1945 SE Water Ave, Portland, OR 97214.
