Professional development workshop for early childhood educators to apply the Engineering Design Process using stories as context.
Supporting Young Engineers is coming to OMSI on Saturday, October 24, from 9 AM to 1 PM. It's an interactive workshop for early childhood educators, and the whole morning centers on the Engineering Design Process. The idea is to take that process—the cycle of asking, imagining, planning, creating, and improving—and apply it using stories as the context. If you're a preschool teacher, that's a practical way to bring STEM into your classroom: starting with a story and letting the kids build their way through it.
This is part of OMSI's Early Childhood Professional Development series, which they describe as fun, research-based sessions for early childhood educators who want to bring STEM into their preschool classrooms. The workshops are designed by OMSI staff working with teachers, and they can be delivered either virtually or in person. For those who need them, participants earn up to four Oregon Registry hours.
