Gala evening of classical ballet with Grand Kyiv Ballet and international guest performers, featuring Don Quixote, Spartacus and The Dying Swan.
Grand Kyiv Ballet takes the stage at the Newmark Theatre on Sunday, November 1, as part of the PRIMA Ballet Gala. The evening is presented by the Portland Rose International Movement & Arts Ballet Gala, and the company is joined by international guest performers. The program pulls from a few of the most recognizable names in classical ballet: highlights from Don Quixote, Spartacus, and The Dying Swan, plus the Hopak, a traditional Ukrainian dance. The music comes from composers including Tchaikovsky.
The gala is set up as a formal occasion. Guests are encouraged to dress in evening attire, and the night begins on the red carpet, so it's the kind of evening where you can actually lean into the dress code. The organizers describe the program as pairing timeless classical ballet with contemporary expression, and that mix comes through in the repertoireโthe broad, dramatic sweeps of Spartacus alongside the intimate, singular focus of The Dying Swan.
