Open musician's jam session with instruments and games available, suitable for all skill levels in a 21+ venue.
Open Jam & Games is back at the Barrel Room on Tuesday, October 13, starting at 7 PM. It's the venue's open musician's jam, the kind of night where the music is the main event and the room fills up with people who just want to play. The stage is fully stocked and ready to go: pianos, electric and acoustic guitars, tube amps, a 4- or 5-string bass, a drum set, and a ukulele, with extra mics for singers. You don't need to bring your own gear unless you're particular about it.
The repertoire leans toward covers, with a particular fondness for the 90s, and the room welcomes everyone from seasoned players to first-timers. If you've been playing for years, you'll fit right in; if you're just starting out, it's a low-pressure way to get on stage. The whole point is that the music is open, so you can jump in on a song you know or just hang out and listen until you feel like taking a turn.

When the music winds down, the night doesn't just stop. There are ping-pong tables and arcade machines to keep things going with some friendly competition, so it works as a place to play music and as a spot to hang out afterward. It's a 21+ venue, so keep your ID handy. The Barrel Room is at 120 Northwest Couch Street in Portland, and entry is free.
