Burlesque show with live music by PDX Memorex, with a dance floor for the audience.
The RainBoas bring their burlesque to The Mission Theater on Saturday, October 10, for a night called Night of the Living Horns. It's a Portland-based troupe, and the lineup for this one runs deep: Moan Wolf, Temera T'Tease, Eva D'Luscious, Victoria Hex, Deva VaVoom, and Sara James. They'll be performing with a live band, and that's where the title comes from.
That band is PDX Memorex, an eight-piece live cover band rooted in the Pacific Northwest scene. They don't stick to one corner of the record store, either. Their repertoire pulls from Stevie Wonder, Dusty Springfield, and Charles Wright, and stretches over to Frazey Ford, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, and Nathaniel Rateliff. With eight people on stage, it's a full sound—plenty of horns to carry the night—and they'll be playing live throughout the show rather than relying on tracks.
The venue itself has a bit of history to it. The Mission Theater dates back to the early 20th century, when the Swedish Mission Covenant congregation built its church on the site. It's part of the West End Entertainment District, one of the McMenamins spots in the city. The night is 18 and over only.
