Miz Kitty's Parlour Halloween Fall Frolic!

Miz Kitty & Friends bring their Halloween Fall Frolic to The Mission Theater on Saturday, October 17. It's a variety night in the style of a turn-of-the-century vaudeville show, and it's one they've been putting on for Portland audiences since 2002. The evening pulls together music, comedy, dance, stories, and live painting, with door prizes and Halloween costumes encouraged.

The lineup for this one runs through a few different acts. Andrew & Courtney's Mystery Box and poet and storyteller Brian S. Ellis handle the comedy and storytelling side of things. Shoehorn, a tap-dancing saxophonist, performs with Elizabeth Abel, and singer Lisa Joy Derosia adds to the musical mix. Throughout the night, Slow Camera Paparazzi works on a live painting, and the house band, The Cur-Tails — Dave Hill, James Cap'n Cook, Michael Pan, and Charles Pike — provides the music. It's an all-ages show, though suggested for patrons 18 and older.

The venue is the Mission Theater, known simply as 'the Mission' around town. It was originally home to the Swedish Mission Covenant congregation in the early 20th century and still looks the part, with its staid, buttoned-up church exterior. Inside, it now hosts live music, video dance nights, and special events, with room for around 300 standing and 200 seated, and a mezzanine that wraps around three sides. On select Thursday and Sunday afternoons, they also run a Mission Theater History & Art Tour.

General admission is standing room only, with limited mezzanine seats available on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open at 6 PM and the show starts at 7 PM, with tickets $25.
