McMenamins Presents Tik Tok: 2010s Recession Pop Dance Night

McMenamins is bringing a 2010s recession pop dance night to the Mission Theater on Friday, November 13, with DJ Dance Dance on the decks. The whole night is built around that specific era of glittering, high-energy pop that defined the early 2010s—the kind of songs that lived on iPod Touch playlists and soundtracked a very particular moment in time.

If you spent those years in skinny jeans, posting breakups you live-tweeted, and keeping a Tumblr crush on your favorite pop star, this is your territory. The set focuses on the artists who owned the charts back then: Ke$ha, Gaga, LMFAO, Rihanna, Icona Pop, and Katy Perry. It's the era of the dance-floor anthem, the kind of pop that felt chaotic and loud and meant to be played at full volume. And for a lot of us, hearing 'Tik Tok' still brings Ke$ha straight to mind, even if the app has since taken over the name.
