Comedians tell their own true crime stories and are then questioned by the audience in a mix of storytelling, improv and crowd participation.
Interrogation: Comedians Tell True Crime Stories comes to Al's Den on Saturday, October 17. It's a night of storytelling and improv presented by McMenamins, and the whole thing is built around a simple, slightly uncomfortable premise: comedians tell their own true crime stories and then have to answer for them.
Here's how it works. A comic takes the stage and tells a true story from their own life that fits the crime theme. Once they're done, they don't just walk offβthey sit down at an interrogation table and take questions from the audience. That's where the improv kicks in, as the crowd gets to poke holes in the story and push for more details. It turns a standard storytelling set into something more like a live cross-examination, and the comedy comes from seeing the comics try to hold their own under the spotlight. The night is led by veteran on the force Korey David, with a special guest host joining him.
There's a way for you to get involved before the show even starts, too. You can submit your own crimes to an anonymous hotline, and those get read live on stage throughout the night. Between the comics' stories, the audience questioning, and the hotline entries, it's a mix of storytelling, improv, and crowd participation that keeps the room moving.
