A comedy dating show where single comedians compete for love, hosted by Mack Lee and Aleah Liebenau with a spooky-season twist.
Heart Throb is back at Kickstand Comedy on Friday, October 16, with a Halloween edition of its comedy dating show. The format is pretty straightforward: single comedians date each other in front of a live audience while the hosts play matchmaker. It's billed as "the hottest comedy dating show in America," and this particular night is built around Brett, a musical troubadour and self-described comedic genius who says he's looking for someone to hold him through the scary parts of movies for the rest of his life in holy matrimony. He'll be the bachelor of the evening, and the heart throbs competing for his attention are Delaney, Emily, and Bimpe. Mack Lee and Aleah Liebenau host the whole thing.
If you haven't been before, it's a bit different from your usual comedy night. Instead of a stand-up set, you're watching a date unfold in real time, with the hosts steering the conversation and the audience watching it all play out. The Halloween theme fits the season, and the whole thing is staged at Kickstand, a room that programs stand-up, improv, sketch, and "weird" comedy. Willamette Week critic Megan Burbank has described it as a place where the city's weirdest, most endearing comics perform in a venue whose strange, scrappy hospitality has never quite been matched.
