Portland-based Americana artist blending alt-pop edge with powerful vocals and songwriting, performing live at the historic Crystal Ballroom.
Haley Johnsen plays the McMenamins Crystal Ballroom on Friday, November 20, 2026. She's a Portland-born artist whose sound drifts between alt-pop, Americana and indie soul, and she's often compared to Brandi Carlile and Bonnie Raitt.
Johnsen first made her mark on a national stage as an American Idol Season 11 Top 24 finalist in 2012. After that, she spent three years writing around 200 songs in her parents' backyard shed, a period that yielded her 2015 debut EP, Through the Blue. Her 2019 album Golden Days caught the attention of Allen Stone, who lent vocals to the track "Weekend," and she later joined electro-pop artist Big Wild as a bassist and backup vocalist, playing festivals like Lollapalooza, Coachella and Bonnaroo.
Her more recent work shows her moving across styles. The 2022 album Goner fused '80s-inspired synth-pop with poignant ballads, while her 2024 EP Late Bloomer leans into Texas twang and her Oregon roots. Between the two, you can hear the alt-pop edge and the Americana influence she's known for.
