KEXP Yule Benefit Tour featuring Kamasi Washington, Bartees Strange and Stas THEE Boss at the Crystal Ballroom.
Kamasi Washington headlines the Crystal Ballroom on Friday, December 4, as part of the KEXP Yule Benefit Tour. He's sharing the bill with Bartees Strange, and the Portland date adds a local opener, Stas THEE Boss, to the mix. It's a three-city run presented with Intrepid Travel and hosted by Cheryl Waters, the head of KEXP.
Portland is the middle stop of the tour. The night before, the bill plays the Showbox in Seattle, and the night after, it moves on to the UC Theatre in Berkeley. That's the format for the whole run: Washington and Strange as the main draw, with a different local opener at each city. Here, that spot goes to Stas THEE Boss.
If you're not familiar with the names, the bill covers a lot of ground. Kamasi Washington is a saxophonist known for expansive, jazz-rooted arrangements. Bartees Strange blends indie rock with R&B and hip-hop. Stas THEE Boss brings the local Portland element to the front of the night. Between the three of them, the evening moves from jazz to indie to local rap, all under the KEXP Yule banner.
