Stumptown Stages presents the Tony Award-winning musical Guys & Dolls at Winningstad Theatre, with an eight-piece live orchestra and ASL interpretation on October 3.
Stumptown Stages is bringing Guys & Dolls to the Winningstad Theatre at Antoinette Hatfield Hall, with performances running from October 2 through October 25. It's a classic for a reason: the show first opened on Broadway on November 24, 1950, and ran for 1,200 performances, picking up five Tony Awards along the way, including Best Musical. The film version, starring Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Jean Simmons, and Vivian Blaine, took home a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. The musical comes from a book by Abe Burrows and Jo Swerling, with music by Frank Loesser.
This production is directed by Dan Murphy, co-founder of Broadway Rose Theatre Company, with choreography by Liberty Dolence. The music is handled by an eight-piece live orchestra led by musical director Reece Sauve, so you'll hear the score played live rather than from a recording. It's recommended for ages 6 and up, and there's a 15-minute intermission in the middle. For those who need it, there's an ASL-interpreted performance on Saturday, October 3, at 2 PM.
