A free stand-up comedy show featuring Portland's best up-and-coming comedians, hosted by James Hartenfeld.
Fresh Faces Showcase is back at Al's Den on Wednesday, October 14, starting at 7 PM. It's a free standup comedy show that puts Portland's up-and-coming comedians on stage, hosted by James Hartenfeld. The bill is built around the city's newer voices, but it's not just the newcomers — a few surprise veterans and touring guests usually drop in to round out the night.
If you're not familiar with the room, Al's Den is a speakeasy-style space inside the Crystal Hotel at 303 SW 12th Avenue. It takes its name from Al Winter, Portland's gambling overlord in the 1940s, and it's an intimate spot where live music and comedy are the main draw. The bar serves craft cocktails alongside house-baked breads and pastries from the Crystal Bakery, and happy hour runs Sunday through Thursday, 3 to 6 PM. Across the street are the Crystal Hotel and the legendary Crystal Ballroom, both long-standing fixtures of the city's live music scene.

The showcase is aimed at music and comedy lovers looking to discover new talent in Portland, and it runs on a monthly cycle: every last Wednesday of the month, a live podcast takes the stage instead of live comedy. This particular show falls on a mid-month Wednesday, so it's the comedy side of the rotation. The show is free and 21 and over, and tips are strongly encouraged. It starts at 7 PM at Al's Den, inside the Crystal Hotel.
