Screenings of Tim Burton's stop-motion animated film Frankenweenie, presented by Family Pictures at the Hollywood Theatre.
Family Pictures is bringing Frankenweenie back to the Hollywood Theatre this weekend, with two screenings of Tim Burton's stop-motion animated film. It's a Halloween classic they're reviving just in time for the season, and they've set it up so you can catch it either on Saturday, October 17, or Sunday, October 18.
If you haven't seen it, Frankenweenie follows a young boy named Victor who brings his beloved pup, Sparky, back to life using the power of electricity. It's Burton in his element—the stop-motion animation gives it that tactile, handmade feel, and the story is a sweet, slightly spooky take on the Frankenstein myth. The film runs 87 minutes, so it's a quick watch that doesn't overstay its welcome.
Behind the scenes, the voice cast is a pretty great gathering of talent: Catherine O'Hara, Martin Short, and Winona Ryder all lend their voices to the characters. It's presented in digital format, and since it's a stop-motion piece, it's the kind of thing that really works on a big screen rather than a living room TV.
