All-woman femme-folk-rock band Fern Spores performs live at Alberta Street Pub, with support from Strange and the Familiars and Flying Caravan.
Fern Spores play the Alberta Street Pub on Thursday, October 15, starting at 7 PM. They're an all-woman femme-folk-rock band from Olympia, Washington, and they're sharing the bill with Strange and the Familiars and Flying Caravan. It's a 21+ show.
Fronted by singer-songwriters Alyssa Nunke and Jade Kovats, with Abbey Ryle on fiddle and Katie Welch on drums, the band pulls from a wide spread of influences. They cite Janis Joplin, Susan Tedeschi, and The Runaways as touchstones, and their sound sits right at the intersection of vintage psych folk, garage rock, clever covers, and soulful Americana ballads. The fiddle gives them a distinct folk lean, while the garage rock side keeps it from leaning too far into the quiet end of things.
They've been active since their debut album, The Understory, came out in 2024, and they're currently working on a second record, The Thicket. Between the two, they've got a decent amount of their own material to draw from, and the covers they mix in tend to be the kind of songs they've put their own spin on rather than straight versions.
