Concert by singer-songwriter Eliza Thorn, with opening acts Mary Eliza and Clayton Eiberg, at the historic Laurelthirst Public House.
Eliza Thorn plays Laurelthirst Public House on Thursday, October 15, with opening acts Mary Eliza and Clayton Eiberg. It's part of the venue's Thursday Night series, so if you're out in the Kerns neighborhood on a weekday, this is a good one to keep on the radar.
Thorn is an emergent singer-songwriter whose debut album, Somebody New, comes out of years of travel and busking. She recorded it with session players Chris Scruggs, Dennis Crouch, Jeff Taylor, and Nate Leath, and the songs nod to Bob Wills, The Ronettes, and Howlin' Wolfāa range that pulls from Western swing, early girl-group pop, and gritty Chicago blues. It's the kind of record that wears its influences on its sleeve, and you'll hear those threads running through the set.
She's joined by two other local names. Mary Eliza is a Portland chanteuse who grew up playing in a family band in Oakland, lived in a van, and busked on city sidewalks. Clayton Eiberg comes from the bluegrass band Dadweed!. Between them, there's a fair bit of the same street-level, busking background that Thorn brings to her own work, so the bill fits together.
