Soulful electronic beats and instrumental hip-hop and funk from Eliot Lipp, with a DJ set from Jason Huber of Cherub.
Eliot Lipp plays a DJ set at Holocene on Wednesday, October 28, with a supporting set from Jason Huber of Cherub. It's a night of electronic beats and instrumental hip-hop and funk, and both are playing DJ sets rather than live sets.
Lipp is a producer from Tacoma, Washington, whose sound sits at the crossroads of new-school funk and vintage synth nostalgia. He draws on an unlikely set of references: walks through New York City, early-morning sessions in Paris cafes, stacks of Czech jazz, and a deep dive into the catalogues of Mo'Wax, Warp, and early Ninja Tune. He's released on Alpha Pup and Pretty Lights Music, runs the labels Old Tacoma Records and Young Heavy Souls, and forms half of the band Lipphead with NYC producer Blockhead. His 2024 record Viper Venom blends old-school electro-funk with high-fidelity future synth breaks.
Jason Huber is a Nashville-based DJ, producer, and lifelong instigator. He's known for nearly 20 years of open-format and house music sets that have powered festivals, clubs, and late-night pop-ups long before and beyond his work with Cherub. He'll be opening the night with his own DJ set before Lipp takes over.
