Documentary film about elephants in the Namib Desert, shown at OMSI as part of the life-science theatre programme.
Elephants: Giants of the Desert is showing at OMSI on Monday, October 12, as part of the museum's daily screenings. It's a documentary about the elephants of Africa's Namib Desert, and it plays in the Empirical Theater, which is where OMSI runs its documentary films.
The film follows a calf named Little Foot as she braves the harsh elements of the Namib and learns from her family how to find underground aquifers and foresee sandstorms. It's a look at the desert elephants as one of nature's most inspiring creatures, and it opens up the landscape to show them alongside giraffes, monkeys, lions, and other wildlife that share the region.
It's part of the life-science theatre programme at the museum, which runs several nature documentaries. Along with Elephants, you'll find Running Wild: Return to the River, narrated by Academy Award nominee Liam Neeson; Blue Whales: Return of the Giants, narrated by Andy Serkis; and Shark Kingdom. If you're in the mood for something like this, you can catch more than one in a single visit.
