DJ Shadow performs a set focused on his 1996 album 'Endtroducing...' to mark its 30th anniversary, with supporting acts King NTG and DJ D Sharp.
DJ Shadow plays the McMenamins Crystal Ballroom on Friday, October 16, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Endtroducing.... He's joined by DJ D Sharp and King NTG.
If you've never heard the record, Endtroducing... came out in 1996 and was built almost entirely from vinyl samples. It's widely cited as a high watermark for instrumental hip-hop, and for this tour, Shadow is doing something he hasn't done before: playing a set focused solely on that one album. The Portland date is part of a 19-stop North American tour that kicked off on September 24 in San Diego.
Shadow, born Joshua Paul Davis in Northern California, has spent the decades since Endtroducing... moving across a lot of ground. He co-founded UNKLE, whose Psyence Fiction jumped between genres, and put out The Private Press, which gave us the single "Six Days." He later released The Outsider, a celebration of the Bay Area, followed by The Less You Know, the Better, The Mountain Will Fall, and Our Pathetic Age in the 2010s, and more recently Action Adventure. Along the way, he's collaborated with Thom Yorke, Run the Jewels, Nas, Deftones, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and Richard Ashcroft of The Verve.
