Jazz guitarist Dan Balmer performs live at The Jack London Revue with Mel Brown and the B3 Organ Group.
Dan Balmer plays The Jack London Revue on Thursday, October 15, with Mel Brown and the B3 Organ Group. It's a jazz guitar set, and the B3 organ in the lineup means the Hammond sound will be right there with him throughout the night.
Balmer is a Portland-based jazz guitarist and educator who's earned national recognition. He's performed alongside Tom Grant, Diane Schuur, Joey Defrancesco, and Dr. Lonnie Smith, and he's worked as a bandleader, composer, and sideman. He has 11 CDs of his own and has contributed to more than 100 others, so he's a familiar presence in the jazz scene here.
For this show, he's bringing in Mel Brown and the B3 Organ Group, which puts the focus on the guitar and the organ together. It's a classic pairing in jazz, and with Balmer leading, it's a good chance to hear him out front with a full group behind him.
