Brickbat Mansion returns for one night only with a night of dark dance at The Six Below Midnight, featuring live performances by Suzanne Perry and Venetial Veil.
Brickbat Mansion is back for one night only on Saturday, October 24, at The Six Below Midnight, part of The Midnight PDX complex at 3341 Southeast Belmont Street. It's a return for a Portland club night that's been around since 2008, and this is the only date on the calendar.
If you've never heard of it, Brickbat Mansion is devoted to the swirly, dreamy side of goth. Its motto is 'swirly songs for Goths and Gazers,' and that pretty much sums up the sound: it drifts between shoegaze, ethereal, goth, darkwave, post-punk, and dream pop, with a particular affection for Cocteau Twins and artists in that vein. The night mixes atmospheric dance tracks and deep cuts with live performances that wander from the dancefloor to the more heavenly corners where those sounds meet. It's as much about the textures as it is about the beat.
For this return, there are special live performances by Suzanne Perry and Venetial Veil, both from right here in Portland. They'll be playing alongside the DJ set, so the night moves between the dancefloor and the live stage. The music stays in that same atmospheric territory, and the whole thing is built around the same swirly, ethereal sound the night has always centered on.
