Elaine Henderson is taking a look at Hercule Poirot at The Plymouth Proprietary Library on Wednesday 14th October, starting at 2pm. It's a talk dedicated to the life and character of Agatha Christie's most famous detective, and it's the kind of thing that works best if you've already got a soft spot for the man and his moustache.
If you've read the books, you know the basics: Poirot first appeared as a Belgian refugee in the village of Styles during the First World War. From there, he grew into a global phenomenon, the lead in 33 novels and 51 short stories. Henderson spends the hour looking closely at him, setting out to find answers to the questions that usually linger in the background of the mysteries—his origins, his appearance, and how he became so good at solving murders.
It's a chance to step back from the plots and the twists and look at the man himself. If you've ever wondered where he actually came from or why he's the way he is, this is where those things get their own space. It's less about the crimes and more about the character behind them.
