Family film screening of Minions and Monsters with drop-in colouring sessions and LUSH bath-bomb making workshop.
Plymouth Arts Cinema is running a summer holiday season around Minions and Monsters, the new Pierre Coffin film, with screenings on Tuesday 28 July, Wednesday 29 July, Tuesday 4 August, and Thursday 6 August. It's a collaboration with LUSH Plymouth, so the cinema is paired with workshops and colouring sessions for kids to do around the screenings.
The film itself is described as the rambunctious, ridiculous and 'totally true' story of how the Minions conquered Hollywood, became movie stars, lost everything and unleashed monsters onto the world before banding together to try and save the planet. It's got a big voice cast: Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz, Jeff Bridges, Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch, Bobby Moynihan, Phil LaMarr, Trey Parker and Pierre Coffin himself.
One thing worth knowing is that these are relaxed screenings. They're designed to be welcoming to young audiences, neurodivergent viewers and anyone with sensory needs, so the volume is kept lower and the house lights stay on slightly. If you've got kids who find a dark, loud cinema a bit much, this is a good way to get them in. Alongside the films, there are free drop-in colouring sessions and LUSH bath-bomb making workshops where children can explore the power of positive self-talk and have a go at being LUSH designers, with each session tied to the film being shown.
