Launch of Second Gaze, an independent fashion magazine exploring women's representation in fashion photography.
Second Gaze launches today, Thursday 23 July, at The Mirror inside Arts University Plymouth. It's an independent fashion magazine, and this is the night it first goes out into the world.
The magazine focuses on women's representation in fashion photography. That's a broad enough subject to cover a lot of ground โ how women are posed, who's behind the lens, and the difference between the images we're used to seeing and the ones that actually tell a story. If you've ever looked at a fashion spread and wondered why it feels a certain way, that's exactly the kind of thing this is digging into. It's a project that looks at the industry from the inside, and the launch is the first chance to see the finished result.
Because it's an independent publication, it's not coming from a big publishing house. It's a smaller, focused project, and the launch is where it officially makes its debut. The Mirror is the university's gallery space, so you'll be seeing it in a setting that's built for looking at images, rather than just picking up a copy in a shop. It's a good spot for this sort of thing โ plenty of room to flip through the pages and take your time with the photography.
Every week we pick ๐ the 5 best ๐ things to do in Plymouth and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.
