Stand-up comedy show 'Stuff' by Scott Bennett at The Quad Theatre, Plymouth.
Scott Bennett brings his stand-up show Stuff to The Quad on Sunday 27 September, running from 19:30 to 21:30. It's a two-hour set, so you'll have a full evening of it.
The show is built around a single, relatable premise: Bennett's attempt to cleanse his life of material possessions. He spends the hour talking through that process and questioning whether such a thing is even possible in the modern world. It's the kind of thing that works on a few levels โ the practical side of getting rid of things, the mental side of letting go, and the wider question of how much we actually need to get by. If you've ever looked at your own cupboards and wondered why you're still holding onto things you don't use, you'll recognise the territory he's working in.
Bennett comes to the stage with a bit of a double life behind him. He's an award-winning comedian and a product designer, and that second half โ the design side โ sits right at the heart of Stuff. It's a show about objects, and having spent his career thinking about how things are made and why we want them, he's well-placed to take them apart on stage. He's also a regular on the national circuit: he's been on Live at the Apollo and has appeared on BBC Radio 4, so he's no stranger to a big room or a tight set. The Evening Standard once described him as "live comedy's best kept secret", which is a fair way of putting it โ he's a name that's been around the industry for a while without always being the one on the billboard.
