Saturday Sessions at Old Town Square

Saturday Sessions are back at Old Town Square on Saturday 1 August, part of a monthly run that takes place on the first Saturday of every month from April through to September. It's held in the event area outside Drake Circus in Plymouth City Centre (PL1 3LU), and the line-up mixes local favourites with talent from across the South West.

On 1 August, The Cabarats take the main slot from 2pm to 3.30pm. They fuse Middle Eastern and Balkan sounds with upbeat ska and reggae, a combination that's earned them festival and BBC Introducing acclaim. Opening for them is bobbieee, the online name of South West indie-folk singer-songwriter Bobbie Holland Theophile. He describes his own sound as 'relaxed but punchy', drawing on Elliott Smith and Radiohead, and he now performs with a four-piece backing band. He plays from 1pm to 1.30pm, so there's a bit of a gap between the two sets.

If you're planning to stick around for more, the sessions continue into September. On Saturday 5 September, Manuka Groove Trio blend pop, funk and reggae from 2pm to 3.30pm, with The Other Woman opening from 1pm to 1.30pm. The Other Woman are an all-female dream-pop trio from Cornwall, influenced by The Cranberries, The Sundays, Cocteau Twins and Big Thief, and they played festivals like Boardmasters between 2023 and 2025.

Both dates run from 1pm to 3.30pm, with the first act starting at 1pm and the second taking over at 2pm. The sessions are free to attend, and they're right in the centre of town, so you can easily drift in and out between the two sets.
