Nacra 15 World Championships

The Nacra 15 World Championships are coming to the Mount Batten Watersports and Activities Centre from 26 July to 1 August, bringing more than 60 boats from 11 countries to the Mount Batten peninsula. It's an international sailing championship, so you'll see crews from across the globe competing right here in Plymouth Sound.

The racing takes place in the sheltered waters of the Cattewater estuary, a spot that offers a range of sailing conditions. The centre itself is well-equipped for a day out, with changing facilities, a cafe, and nearby parking, so it's as easy to watch from the shore as it is to get involved. The championships are run by Hooe Point Sailing Club and Plym Yacht Club, together with the International Nacra 15 Class Association and the UK Nacra 15 Class Association.

Hooe Point is a small Plymouth club that started out as a way to make sailing and boating affordable for civil servants, families, and friends. These days it boasts the biggest dinghy fleet in the city, with Monday night summer racing and Saturday morning winter racing. The centre provides more than 50 all-year-round dinghy spaces, and this world championship is one of the biggest events it hosts. With over 60 boats from 11 countries on the water, it's a good chance to see the Nacra 15 class in action.
