Live music sessions featuring local singer-songwriters Calvin Thomas, Kate Hall and Jamie Yost in the South Hall of The Box.
The Box Kitchen & Bar is running Live Music Fridays throughout August, with three singer-songwriters from across the city and the South West taking turns in the South Hall. It's a series of separate nights rather than one big bill, so you can pick the one that suits you best. Calvin Thomas opens the run on Friday 7 August, followed by Kate Hall on Friday 14, and Jamie Yost on Friday 21. Each session runs from 5pm to 7.30pm, which puts them in the early evening rather than late at night.
Calvin Thomas is a Plymouth songwriter whose writing has been described as honest and poetic, with a voice that draws on folk, blues and punk. Kate Hall, also based in Plymouth, blends indie pop, R&B, soul and blues into a genre-defying sound, pairing soulful vocals and piano-led pop with touches of R&B and indie grit. Jamie Yost, raised in Devon, lets the South West landscape and his folk roots shape his music, interwoven with alt-pop melodies; he's caught the eye of festivals like Cambridge Folk Festival and the View Stage at Boardmasters, where he's played headline sets.
