A series of life drawing classes led by artist Ralph Nel, covering various drawing techniques and tips for all skill levels.
Ralph Nel is running a life drawing course at The Box on Tavistock Place, starting Friday 17 July and running every Friday until 18 December. It's a long stretch — more of a term than a one-off — so if you've been wanting to get into drawing and actually stick with it, this is a good way to build the habit.
Nel is a Plymouth-based artist and drawing teacher with ten years' experience, and he specialises in historical drawing methods alongside a range of different techniques. He's got a pretty open approach to the whole thing: he believes anyone can draw, and that there's no such thing as a 'good' drawing, only a good chance to learn something new or build on a skill you've already got. That's the spirit he brings to the sessions, too. They're designed to be open-ended and adapt to each person in the room, rather than following a rigid syllabus.
Over the course of the term, you'll work through a range of life drawing techniques, tips and tricks. Each session starts with warm-up exercises to get you loose, and there's one-to-one engagement throughout, with personalised tips and suggestions as you go. Because of that, it works for people who are completely new to life drawing and for those who've done it before and want to push their skills a bit further.

It's a Friday lunchtime slot, 12:30 to 14:30, so it's something you can fit in during a break or on a day off. The sessions run from 17 July through to 18 December at The Box, Tavistock Place, Plymouth, PL4 8AX, and cost £12.
